Volunteer Opportunities

MSU Safe Place relies on volunteers to implement many of our services. We ask for a minimum commitment of 2-4 hours per week for at least one semester (approximately 4 months).

Client Support/Advocacy:
Provide support through one-on-one contact with shelter residents. Complete intakes and ongoing tasks with those in our shelter. Client Support/Advocacy volunteers have the option of being on a 24-hour on-call list. This responsibility includes being readily available to meet someone who needs assistance and performing intakes after normal business hours.

Child Care:
Spend time with individual or small groups of children in our shelter. Occasionally assist with field trips and special events. Some knowledge of child development is helpful, but not required.

How to Apply:
Note: Please contact Lara (haydenl8@msu.edu) before submitting a volunteer application to check the status of current volunteer openings.

Volunteer Training is held in January, May and September and applications are accepted the month before each training (when there are open positions). If you are interested in applying to volunteer, please contact Lara Hayden at haydenl8@msu.edu.  All volunteers will also need to pass a background check and driving record check prior to the start of volunteer training.
